The Vermont Community Loan Fund (VCLF) transforms
Vermonters' lives by providing loans, grants and technical assistance
for affordable housing, small businesses, child care providers and
other community facilities benefiting lower-income Vermonters.
Vermont Small Business Assistance
Several free counseling and training programs are
available to help you get started and expand your small business. These
services cover all aspects of starting and running a business, from
getting a loan to developing business plans and marketing strategies.
There are also a number of local small business
centers sponsored or partially funded by SBA that help women
and minorities with start-up counseling and financial
assistance:
SCORE (Service Corps of Retired
Executives Association), a non-profit organization and SBA
partner, offers free mentoring, business counseling and low-cost
workshops.

"Technical assistance and lending to low-income
persons residing in central Vermont. Originated in 1988, the
Micro-business Development Program (MBDP) is a partnership between five
Community Action Agencies (CAA's) and the State of Vermont Office of
Economic Opportunity. Each CAA houses a MBDP staff person or Business
Development Specialist who provides technical assistance to
income-eligible Vermonters interested in starting or expanding
businesses. The State provides access to financing through its Job
Start Loan Program. The Business Development Specialists offer both
classroom training and one-on-one assistance to program participants.
Central Vermont Community Action Council (CVCAC), one of the CAA's,
acts as the lead agency and houses the MBDP Director."
