Lanzhou
is the capital city
of Gansu Province.
Its area totals 13,085.6 sq km, including
an urban area of 1,631.6 sq km. Its population stands at 2.76
million, including an urban population of 1.476 million. Lanzhou is an
old city with a history of over 2,000 years. Its long history has
resulted in lots of cultural and historical relics.
Since
1978, Lanzhou has taken urban infrastructure
construction as a key measure to improve its investment environment and
open itself wider to the outside world. Marked achievements have been
made in this aspect. In building a hard environment, the city has
focused its efforts on urban transportation, gas and water supply,
telecommunications and environmental protection. It has undertaken key
projects such as a gasworks with a daily output of 540,000 million cu
m, the second heat and power plant with a heat supply area of 5.4
million
sq m, and the Yan'erwan Sewage Treatment Plant.
The city has become a communications and
telecommunications hub in Gansu Province and also connecting Gansu
Province with other parts of the world. Its urban vegetation coverage
amounted to 2,141.4 ha, with a coverage rate of 16.3%. The "blue-sky
program" aimed to treat air pollution was effectively carried out,
helping improve the environment substantially. Lanzhou was chosen as a
national sanitary city several time in the 1990s.
In building a soft environment, the city has
launched "one-stop" service to improve the quality of its
services to overseas investors. It has established the state-level
Lanzhou New and High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the Lanzhou
Economic and Technological Development Zone, and the Lianhai Economic
Development Zone.
