Zhuhai City |
Situated
in the southern part of Guangdong Province, P.R. China,
Zhuhai was founded in 1979. Zhuhai, 140 km away from
Guanzhou, stands on the western bank of the Pearl River outfall,
adjacent to South China Sea and connecting with Hong Kong and Shenzhen
Water Areas eastward with a distance of 36 sea miles from Hong Kong as
well as neighboring Macau on land southward. Zhuhai lies
between North Latitude 21°48' to 22°27' and East Longitude 113°03' to
114°19', with a land area of 1,653 km2 and a maritime area of 6,000
km2, including 146 sea islands.
Zhuhai is a
famous city with thousands of islands and is one of the earliest SEZs
set up in China, having lawmaking power granted by National People's
Congress. Zhuhai governs three administrative districts:
Xiangzhou District, Doumen District and Jinwan Distric; and five
economic functional zones: Zhuhai National High and New-technology
Industries Development district, Zhuhai Free Trade Zone, Wanshan Ocean
Development and Experiment Zone, Hengqin Economic & Technology
Development Zone as well as Zhuhai Harbor Industry Zone. By 2002, the
city's population totaled 1.23 million, among which there were 790,000
residents with permanent households registry.
Zhuhai,
successively, was appraised as "One of the 40 Touristy Resorts in
China", "National Excellent Touristy City" and "Guangdong Modern
Science and Technology Demonstration City" and was honored the titles
of "National Environmental Protection Demonstration City", "National
Ecological Demonstration City" as well as was granted the
"International Award for Best Practices in Improving Environment" by
the United Nations. Great events such as International Aviation and
Aerospace Fair and International Car Racing are attracting foreign
friends and investors. Nowadays, a modern seaside beautiful city -
Zhuhai - with booming economy and stable society is taking shape, which
shows a great development potentiality.
